MGS4 on Microsoft's box?

Here's a rumor that just won't die. All variety of news outlets have reported the possibility that Metal Gear Solid 4, the crown jewel in the Sony exclusives library, will make its way to the Xbox 360. Sources as credible as EGM have hinted as much, but director Hideo Kojima seemed to put the matter to rest this year when he reiterated that the game would remain in the PS3 corral.
Last week, one of the game's producers (joined by 1UP editors on the Kojima productions podcast) ventured this much: "...we have not changed the game in any form with the idea of 'oh, we got to do this on 360.' Put aside whether or not we're developing for 360 or not, the game is built on the PS3 hardware." Whether this means they've ruled out the possibility, or that they've conceded that perhaps it is a timed exclusive, is anyone's guess.

Still, the economics seem weighed in favor of a port. The 360 will have a larger installed base, and gamers itching to get their paws on Konami's opus would have a cheaper option than shelling out for the PS3, whose 3rd party support seems to be dwindling. Already Devil May Cry 4 and the latest Final Fantasy are confirmed cross-platform.

Today, Destructoid's Ron Workman claimed to have it on good authority that the ink is still drying on a deal that guarantees an Xbox port a year from the release of the PS3 original. What separates this rumor from masturbatory navel-gazing by forum-bound fanboys is the current status of that post. Interestingly, the original post has been replaced with a mangled statement with all of the juicy details [omitted]. Has Destructoid been slapped with a cease-and-desist? It looks like it!

Does this retraction, hours after the original post, give the rumor a veneer of legitimacy? Or is Workman's inside track reek of ripe cow shit? We'll be following this one.
